Pros

Gives a great training ground for those that are interested in managing government contracts. Essentially, this is what this company has become, a contracting machine.

Cons

Forget about actually learning anything about "development." That is not the emphasis here. If you want to learn about government project management, contracting, etc. This is the place. Does not seem to value employees anymore, all the talents are leaving and will do so now that they have announced that there will be more cuts because they can't win a proposal. I appreciate the fact that they need projects to keep the company going, but rather than putting a good program together, they are more concerned with the bottom line. If you put a good program together, the money will come. I wish I experienced the days where Chemonics actually gave a hoot about the so called "people" they are supposed to help.

Advice to Management

Management needs to examine the organizations true mission. Please do not look at your mission statement, that is just going through the motion. Look in your heart and the companies strength. Chemonics has great talent and development professionals, but if you keep going the way you are, you will lose. Get back to how this company became a great development force. Employee owned was also a bad mistake as the only people that can actually benefit is senior management. Been through many of this in my past, haven't seen a dime and 2 of them crashed and burned. Yeah and million dollar bonuses are usually not that great at this time. Maybe take an example from the real world CEO and not pay yourself until one sees a turn around. e.g Japan Airlines.

    Pros

Outside of Senior Management, you work with some of the most dedicated, hard working people you will ever meet.

    Cons

Chemonics is poorly run proposal machine oiled with the blood of the Associates. You will be expected to work 10 hours a day plus Saturdays for no extra pay or time off. Industry-wise, Chemonics has some of the worst pay and benefits.

    Advice to Management

After Executive Management paid itself off last year under the "Employee Ownership" buyout, Chemonics decided that the only way to keep paying Executives their high salary along with the sweet benefits they gave themselves in the buyout, was to greatly reduce the number of junior staff working in the DC office and to reduce the already meager benefits. This means the employee that use to belong to a team of four now belong in a team of two. And while the remaining employees are now doing twice the work, they are getting less benefits and with no hope of a salary increase anytime in the next few years. Everyone sees the writing on the wall and is trying to get out. Currently, Chemonics' main competitors are hiring and offering much better salary and benefits. Management needs to realize that everyone that can leave Chemonics is leaving Chemonics. If they don't change their ways, Chemonics will not be around much longer.
