Pros

Night shifts were easy. Some of the people weren't awful.

Cons

Well, where do I start with this absolute horror show of an organisation. I started working there after replying to an Ad on Gumtree.com looking for actors. It was basically a role handing out flyers that I thought would last about 6 weeks. when I arrived at the Gloucester road head office I noticed that that it seemed a little dilapidated, but thought due to the Co2 levels in that part of London it made sense. I was interviewed and effectively offered the job straight away. Weirdly, I was introduced to the CEO of the organisation, a man referred to by staff as “Junior” he seemed nice enough, although thought a lot of himself and had an office not dissimilar to Mr. Burns’ from “The Simpsons”. Even though i met him there no mention of wages being received by Cheque payment, no mention of security features in store, no mention of procedures or training plans, or Targets. Nothing. As the weeks went by I was being tasked with more roles that encompass getting people to use our services by approaching people and asking them if they wanted to change some money. forgot to mention they had me dress up as a beefeater the entire time. yep. I know. As I was relatively good at it and they were losing staff left right and centre they asked me to make the jump over to being a staff member. This will go down as being one of the worst decisions I have ever made. the staff are actively encouraged to rip people off. there was no commission structure in place for employees to want to make more sales and seriously most of the time staff are told "if it's quiet read a book or go on YouTube" I kid you not! Now some of you might think this is a laugh and easy, trust me it’s not. I was made to carry upwards of £50,000 cash around London and sometimes as far up as the branch in Oxford with no protection or instruction of what to do if something goes wrong. The company then asked if it would be okay if I did some night shifts on a 2 week rolling rota I said that it wouldn't be a problem as I'd always been interested in that, and it was more money! within a week this turned into me having being placed on nightshift for everyone of my shifts. as you can imagine being stuck in the Wardour street office round the corner from Leicester square and opposite a pub every Friday and Saturday night does wonders for your social life. I had been verbally and physically assaulted on shift and people had attempted to break through the “bulletproof” glass by throwing the A-Board at the booth’s window. The whole thing of if your till was under by £5.00 is true, but if you work out your mistakes along the way you can certainly make up the difference as you go. one such night I was working and a customer approached my booth. he said that the bank had locked his card as he had entered the pin too many times incorrectly, he sounded American and like a normal tourist, he handed me the bank card and his ID which I took copies of. I then rang his bank to ask them if the funds existed in his account in order for it to be withdrawn. the bank CONFIRMED that he had the funds in his account and that if I typed the code in he would be able to have the funds released. this happened probably 3/4 times totalling about £2.5k I thought I was going to make the most amount of commission in a single night shift. I was then pulled in for a meeting to be told that the "customer " didn't have the funds in his account and that I was under investigation for fraudulent activity. this is the point where the police came into the room and arrested me for "suspicion of fraudulent activity" and I was taken to Notting hill police station. I was placed in a cell for 7 hours whilst a DCI from Westminster police station was asked to report to the station I was being held at as this is where the alleged offence took place. the officer arrived and said the company were saying they had CCTV footage of the offence taking place but after waiting for this to arrive the film was apparently "turned off when the customer arrived at the desk". it is my belief that there was no such CCTV and the company needed to say anything to back themselves up. the DCI said "I don't believe you have done anything malicious and you did everything the company had trained you to do”. I was then released with no further action being taken. To this date I have received no further correspondence with Chequepoint as an organisation or with any member of the management team. I have had no apology or admittance of any over reaction from them as an organisation and it has only taken me this long to talk about it as I wasn't aware that a website like this existed, Although I have no criminal record because of it, whenever an enhanced CRB is done on myself it will always show that I was arrested on suspicion of fraud. as such companies have turned me down for work because of it and it has generally made trying to find work since hellish. This company leap to accusations when it comes to staff and never have your best interests at heart whether you are a customer or an employee. Do not be fooled by this organisation and learn from my mistakes. They should be shut down immediately.

Pros

If you want to dive into the Dickensian world of A Christmas Carol and feel Scrooge’s harshness firsthand, this company’s a great place.

Cons

The Dickensian atmosphere comes with harsh micromanagement and a cold, objectifying approach to staff, making you feel like a cog in Scrooge’s counting-house.

Pros

The job is good to progress through, I went from a cashier to deputy store manager within 7 months, colleagues and some management are really friendly your like a close family, laid back work atmosphere, staff get better rate on currency, can take a wage advance out of the till if authorised and will deduct from your pay

Cons

Arguing customers due to charging 13.9% commission with a no refund policy, get paid by cheque so the company can earn interest on your wages and depending on your bank can take a week to clear, always short of currency in the business as the owner never reinvests back into the company, don't use a secure courier like g4s or lumia and make you take up to 40k in cash to head office and swap it for currency what you need, can be scary walking round London or oxford with that sort of cash in your bag and finally if your till is more than £5 short at the end of your shift the amount will be deducted example your till is £50 short you will lose £50 out of your wage when your paid
