I worked at Children's Hospital Of The King's Daughters full-time (More than a year)

Pros

The children.
The impact you can make on the family of a sick child is all the gratitude I need.
The doctor I worked under was amazing & we kept in touch long after I left the practice.

Cons

Besides being completely underpaid, management was very cruel and played favorites; enjoyed pitting colleagues against one another.
Got to the point where I hated coming to work.

Advice to Management

A new manager altogether would be a wise idea.

    Pros

I like working with the patient population. I love working with my co-workers. The staff at this hospital truly cares about each other.

    Cons

The one thing that is very consistent with the other reviewers is the amount of favoritism that is shown by leadership. You are not paid based on your experience. People are promoted not based on experience or knowledge but favortism. The hospital gives preferential treatment to those whose economic situation are better. The senior leadership does not look after the well being of the children but often cuts corners to save money. The staff isn't treated with respect but are talked down to. This organization does not encourage freedom of speech and independence. Those employees who have expressed themselves are no longer here. They have been bullied or made to resign or their position has been cut or given to a person with less experience.

    Advice to Management

This hospital needs to do a clean sweep of all management. Learn to treat your employees with respect and compassion. The company should embrace cultural diversity in the workplace after all just because people are different does not mean they are bad employees. Promotions should be based on experience and knowledge and open to all not a select few. Develop a clinical ladder and make all your leadership reapply for their positions based on their knowledge and experience of that position. This company has demoralized so many people through the current leadership. Have honest and open forums with your employees, practice a no retaliation workplace for honest and open dialogue with management and the employees.

    Pros

Only pediatric hospital in the immediate area, great staff physicians, amazing patients, strong community support

    Cons

Poor pay, poor benefits, employees are very condescending towards each other creating a negative work environment, managers play favorites, difficult to get time off, hospital offers tuition assistance however makes it difficult to claim, raises are few and far between, raises are small when given, hospital does not recognize employees for excellent work, "guilty until proven innocent" frame of mind

    Advice to Management

Support your employees; all the good employees are leaving for hospitals that treat them better, and it's beginning to show in the quality of care.
