Pros

Managers CARE about your success because it reflects their success.

Cons

When routes get too big, they cut the routes down to create a new route. This directly affects your pay because if your route is the one that is too big you lose more customers than other routes and sort of "start over" with a smaller territory, making less commission. You then start building it again over the years until they cut it down again. Cycle continues.

Advice to Management

Hire management from within- hire managers who have been a service sales rep in first aid & safety division for at least a year. Dont hire outside people; it takes too long for them to figure out how we do our jobs. Some never get it.

    Pros

Good starting pay, chances to advance in the company, innovative products and a well established profitable company, great benefits and good talented people, great corporate culture.

    Cons

Hard to balance family/work life, stressful job, always changing KPIs so they are out of reach, will restructure pay plans if a SSR is performing well so they are less compensated, once they identify someone is not meeting expectations - they become a target instead of trying to work with the partner.

    Advice to Management

Run a route if you didn't come up that way into management...and if you did, remember how difficult and demanding it was.

    Pros

Good benefits, profit sharing, and stock options. Reasonably good pay for new employees.

    Cons

Management has a distorted sense of reality. You are constantly under pressure to "perform". This promotes unethical practices and requires you to live in the "grey" area. Four day work weeks are nice. Twelve hour days... not so nice. Especially when the day starts at 4a.m.

    Advice to Management

Don't get greedy. I get the turn and burn policy. It is more cost effective to keep a middle of the road performer rather than constantly hire new employees just to have them burn out. Don't let minor rumors consume your day and negatively affect your attitude. Promote qualified employees. Don't just "fill a quota".
