I worked at Cisco Systems as an intern (Less than a year)

Pros

Depends upon team to team. I got a lot to learn over there as the project was in rudimentary stage.
Lots of fun activities for interns.

Cons

Less Salary compared to others.

I have been working at Cisco Systems full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    - The products are great and continue to be very competetive
    - Great Silicon valley location (San Jose, CA) and other key centers in US - RTP (NC), Richardson (TX), Lawrenceville (GA) and Boxborough (MA)
    - True global player with big R&D investments in India

    Cons

    - Not a healthy change in culture. People are becoming commodities
    - Low motivation among rank and file. Noth a healthy work/life balance
    - Recent layoffs (2011 and 2012) has hurt the morale. Everyone seems to be watching their back and not easily collaborate for the common good

    Advice to Management

    - Need change at senior leaderhip and infuse new thinking
    - Focus on core and collaborate with partners on context
    - Key messages seem to focus more on engineering talent. Let others know they are very important too
