I have been working at Cisco Systems full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Salary
    Ability to work from home
    Healthcare benefits
    401K match
    Volunteer hours

    Cons

It is a shark tank. Whole departments are at war with each other. The Collaboration Group is highly risk-averse and re-organization happens quarterly to serve sr leadership's concerns. Employees are disoriented and stressed out, expected to produce miracles without any support. Managers talk at their teams, giving directions that come straight from marketing brochures, and then scurry off to their endless closed door meetings. Their arrogance is breath-taking.

    Advice to Management

Embrace fewer features per product, but more challenging features to implement, in order to produce products that people will really value. Stop pretending that what management wants to use is what should be built. Advise everyone on their constraints of their role and show respect for everyone's contribution. Stop stepping on human beings and lashing out at them, treating them like pawns in a chess game who should, as more than one manager has said, "just shut up and be grateful they have a job".
