I have been working at Cisco Systems full-time (More than 5 years)

Pros

Good benefits and access to a lot of amenities!! Some groups have a autonomy and work great. Others are silos and you would never know there is more out there since you can get buried with the same/day to day tasks.... Divide and conquer big sales deals/acquisitions

Cons

Not all locations have all the perks and luxuries... Some have none at all :( Senior leadership at the director level change every 8-12 months consistently and have done so for the past few years. Goals and direction changes just as often. Politics play big here... Who you know can be good or bad. Some areas of the company are the market leaders, whereas others are far behind.

Advice to Management

Be transparent when shifting gears.. It's okay to change direction, people appreciate when you acknowledge things aren't working and change is needed. Not all managers are pushing the Cisco culture in regards to employee personal growth. Take care of your employees with continuing compensation or lose them to competitors. When asking your front line employees for their opinions, use them to make sensible changes... Seems like most are asked their opinion because it is a goal set for them and their managers take employees considerations and do nothing with them... Too much "going through the motions" and not enough work done to follow up on the voice of the frontline employee

I worked at Cisco Systems full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great culture for those who are collaborative in nature. Cisco provides lots of support systems to be successful in your work.

    Cons

Sometimes it's a sweatshop. Were it not for forced PTO during Christmas, too many people would be working ON Christmas.

    Advice to Management

Don't be afraid to make a decision and act. Too much time is wasted trying to make everyone happy. Too many layers of bureaucracy to be effective.
