Pros

Opportunities to work in different networking areas. Flexible work hours.

Cons

Workload could be overwhelming at times. Force ranking which could be easily manipulated good or bad by your manager.

Advice to Management

Treat employee feedback on first and second line managers seriously. Take action if management feedback is trending negative year over year.

    Pros

If you are looking to learn about process and structure, Cisco is a great training ground for that type of environment. It is a well established company with decent pay and above average benefits. Here are some of the highlights of working at Cisco:

    - Promote cross-functional collaboration
    - Benefits: 2yr look back for ESPP
    - Nice facilities, including gym and onsite medical (PPO and HMO)
    - Allow for job rotation after 18 mo in current position
    - flexible work schedule; work from home

This is a mature company, but the employees are still energetic and fun.

    Cons

65+ Thousand employees! Lots of politics and bureaucracy across the board (all functions). Implementation of new ideas and processes are painfully slow and difficult.....like pushing a 600 lbs boulder uphill. Promotion process it tedious and deflating, many high performing employees get stuck in roles below their capability then are "trapped" at that grade level. Good employees tend to get frustrated and rotate out of their current role or leave, which creates knowledge gaps within the group. Company does a very poor job of maintaining a best practice playbook. Loss of knowledge is common, however, there is too much recreation of existing roles do to poor documentation. Training and mentoring within Cisco has disappeared!

    Advice to Management

Gave them my advice when I was an employee, but they did not listen.
