I have been working at Cisco Systems as an intern (Less than a year)

Pros

- People at different levels are accessible, and nice.
- Lots of free lunches and events.
- Encourage collaboration of projects (called stretch projects).
- Ability to work from home, gives flexibility for work schedule.
- Many options for commuting help.
- Great way to develop a professional network.

Cons

- If you like having your team/coworkers physically around, you will be disappointed. A lot of workers do work remotely. This varies by org/department.
- The first three weeks were not so busy, I had to ask aggresively for work.

Advice to Management

- Feel free to give the interns more responsibility. Don't underestimate their skills.

I worked at Cisco Systems full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great infrastructure to support you in your job. Nice perks (although not as good as they used to be) and benefits. Good communication from upper management.

    Cons

Rather bureaucratic. Have gotten a little cheap over the years - have eliminated free waters/sodas, reduced the lunchroom hours and raised prices, hard to get new monitors, etc. approved, almost zero travel budget for anyone but executives and salespeople, and so on. Haven't given out stock options in years, and raises are seldom.

    Advice to Management

Learn to be more nimble like your competitors. Spend a little cash on the small stuff for employees - a little says a lot!
