No opinion of CEO

I worked at Cisco Systems full-time (More than 5 years)

Pros

1. Flexible hours, work from home option.
2. Good bonus.
3. Great benefits. Onsite medical facilities. Free shuttles to bart/caltrain/san francisco..
4. Challenging work and cutting edge technology in some teams. Quality of work and management varies widely across teams/business units.

Cons

Big bloated company, too many layers of management.
Not a fun workplace. Workplace Resources department is very inefficient and does a poor job.

Advice to Management

Get rid of redundancies and unnecessary layers. Make the company more attractive for young people.

I have been working at Cisco Systems full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Flexible work schedule. Decent PTO, average benefits

    Cons

The Security and Government part of Cisco (can't call it a division because they don't like that word) is completely leaderless. Sure, they have people who fill those positions but they provide absolutely zero leadership. The senior management is aloof and does not directly communicate with or engage the work-force.

    Advice to Management

Get in touch with your employees. Engage with them and give them a reason to want to be there. Cisco is a very large company that plays in the SF Bay Area it is very hard to attract talent just because you are Cisco. You really need to look at how otehr smaller companies are successfully hiring and retaining talent.

I worked at Cisco Systems full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good salary and PTO policy and opportunity to learn. CISCO encourages employees to rotate to other positions within the company. Even the multiple ongoing rounds of layoffs are handled as gracefully as such things can be, with sensitivity to those affected.

    Cons

Lack of communication. There are too many oddball managers in too many departments who are technically adept but lack people management skills. The Finance organization has been struggling to find the right blend of San Jose-based, India-outsourced, and North Carolina RTP-based job mix.

    Advice to Management

    Incorporate 360 degree review process.
