I have been working at Cisco Systems full-time

Pros

- Open door policy (accessibility) of senior management
- Encourage rotation - managers very supportive
- Opportunity to do variety of things and develop breadth of knowledge
- Smart and congenial people to work with - snobbish attitude is a no-no
- Managers do not micro-manage
- Flexibility to work remotely from home
- Good benefits

Cons

- Promotion process sometimes seems like popularity contest
- Frequent restructurings of late affecting employee morale
- Being a big company, sometimes 2-3 teams are working on similar project without knowledge

Advice to Management

- Employees should not be let go due to executive management blunders
- Ensure that top rated employees are moved to other groups instead of them getting impacted as well during group dissolution/reorg

I worked at Cisco Systems full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Large, lots of possibilities, basic product portfolio will serve it well long-term

    Cons

It has been listening to the loudest employees, instead of the smartest ones; They have made poor decisions over the past 5-6 years on direction, senior staff, and products that have hurt their value, as well as their employee base.

    Advice to Management

Think about what used to make you "the company to work for" and strive to achieve that again.
