I have been working at Cisco Systems full-time (More than 10 years)

Pros

Great management overall; good salary/benefits; inspiring place to work in terms of contributions to the world; for such a big company, adjusts surprisingly quickly to market issues and opportunities.

Cons

Of late, the company has had numerous re-orgs and the most recent one let go some personnel who were solid contributors which is impacting morale. Also, it appears there's a tops down push to simply eliminate some processes.

Advice to Management

Be more consultative in reorganizations to be sure you're only cutting fat, not muscle. Latest reorg feels like big, bureaucratic company move.

I worked at Cisco Systems full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Mature management. I had worked under 6 managers and all of them happen to be very mature, co-operating and skillful. I believe even today most of the managers (if not all) are very compassionate about their team member and the quality of work.
Helpful team. I happen to work with a team of very talented engineers who are always ready to join up as a team and make the work fun.
Challenging work profile. If taken positively there is lot to learn from the work. Management makes sure that engineers get to work on the subject of their choice. Internal movement and change in work profile is also a good option for over all career development.
Very well organized and good HR policies. Politics is everywhere, lets admit it. But I have seen very little office politics in Cisco. People delivering the results are rewarded. Maybe few cases might be otherwise, but I haven't witnessed them.

    Cons

Work pressure. Though management takes care of work life balance, often engineers end up working more. This happen to be a trend after the 2008 economic recession. I would largely blame cut throat competition for this.
Can' take a back seat. Even though Cisco is a huge organization, it's almost impossible to hide under the hood. Delivering the results is a key, working smart is a must along with working hard.
Too much of over communication. Management mostly expects everyone to be visible on mails and discussions. Sometimes it becomes a burden and causes lot of work pressure.
Proprietary technology. Working for longer duration in Cisco may make you unaware of technological advancements in outside world, more so if you are not so interested in learning or in case you can't manage to learn due to work pressure.
Salaries are pathetic. Compared to the kind of challenging work offered by Cisco, the salary levels do not match. This eventually may force you to look outside.

    Advice to Management

It will be wonderful to see that mature management continues in Cisco. Please do take care of the team in every possible manner and restore the benefits of free snacks and fruits again. It doesn't really cost much to provide such talented and dedicated team who work a lot to make Cisco successful.

I have been working at Cisco Systems full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Customer centric, results driven individuals, teams and management

    Cons

Risks becoming overwhelmed with internal business process like other large IT vendors, simply due to it's size.

    Advice to Management

The IT industry is certainly in a rapid state of change, but don't forget the winning formula that has lead to Cisco's success
