I worked at Cisco Systems full-time (More than 10 years)

Pros

Good pay and bonus Coworkers are typically pretty good people, although they tend to be on the more conservative side. Culture has taken a turn for the worse.

Cons

Horrible leadership, tons of politics, terrible HR, basically you should treat yourself as a mercenary and look out for yourself. Also, since they put in water less toilets, you get the honor of smelling your coworkers urine. Great motivation to stop drinking water during the day which saves the company valuable revenue.

Advice to Management

Stop pretending employees are stupid, own up to your mistakes and replace Chambers.

I have been working at Cisco Systems full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Robust and expansive opportunities. Exposure with upper level management. Amazing training curriculum available. Friendly and upbeat work environment. Co-workers are all very supportive, and willing to help you succeed. Although there is a ton of "older" generations at Cisco, more often than not they are willing to lend a helping hand and provide guidance.

    Cons

Such a large company that you can often feel lost in the shuffle. Currently Cisco is hitting a rough patch in the networking/routing/IT space. Needs to be more pro-active in being at the forefront of the industry, and truly strive to be that #1 IT company.

    Advice to Management

Be more pro-active then re-active. Clearly Cisco hires a ton of people..in addition to mergers and acquisitions. Why are we bringing 100% of people on board from M&A's? Find a way to do more with less when taking over a company. The people paying the price are often those most loyal to Cisco and those who've been around quite a while.
