I worked at Cisco Systems full-time (More than 10 years)

Pros

Good pay and bonus Coworkers are typically pretty good people, although they tend to be on the more conservative side. Culture has taken a turn for the worse.

Cons

Horrible leadership, tons of politics, terrible HR, basically you should treat yourself as a mercenary and look out for yourself. Also, since they put in water less toilets, you get the honor of smelling your coworkers urine. Great motivation to stop drinking water during the day which saves the company valuable revenue.

Advice to Management

Stop pretending employees are stupid, own up to your mistakes and replace Chambers.

    I worked at Cisco Systems full-time

    Pros

    * Great compensation and benefits
    * Smart, fast moving people, tech savvy
    * Great tech tools
    * Decent work/life balance- big plus is many people can work remote. Perks like day care, nice cafes, gym

    Cons

    * High turnover- many senior managers departing; annual layoffs that keep people on edge, revolving door culture.
    * Lip service given to "great place to work" and caring for employees vs the reality of annual layoffs...people moved in and out and treated like pawns
    * Large pc of company is now contractor based,allowing it to skimp on benefit costs and reduce workforces with ease
    * Senior mgn led by the long- time CEO trying desperately to move Cisco in new directions, beyond routers and switches, with mixed results (example: video technology)

    Advice to Management

    Bring in some new blood in senior management, stabilize the workforce; quit managing according to the latest quarter's earnings (and next quarter's outlook). Look at other co's like IBM that have reinvented and transitioned to the new era.
