I have been working at Cisco Systems full-time (More than 10 years)

Pros

Cisco pays well, it's not in the top 10%, but it pays those employees well that it wants to keep. It does give out RSUs and the ESPP has paid well over the past few years. There are four levels of health care benefits, that make it easy to tailor your benefits. Work/like balance is dependent on your individual manager; most are very good. Lots of opportunities to move around. Patent and yearly bonuses are good.

Cons

Depending on the business unit/work group, middle management can place unrealistic demands upon individual contributors. Working outside of San Jose can be a challenge if you want to rise through the ranks; visibility is key. Sick and vacation time is combined into one pool of Paid Time Off (PTO), and the company has a policy of forcing employees to use 3 or 4 days during the year-end "holiday shutdown". Amount of earned PTO does not increase with seniority, but amount one can accumulate and save, does.

Advice to Management

Bring the remote sites into the fold better.

I have been working at Cisco Systems full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great exposure to technology and corporate culture. Good work/life balance. Decent compensation and great benefits.

    Cons

If you stay in one role for more than a few years you could end up stuck there. Not to mention things become repetitive very fast so move around in order to stay relevant and continuing to learn. Management is not in sync across the bored so you can be a super star on one team, but a complete failure based on the criteria of another team. This is harmful to those who want to move around in the company.

    Advice to Management

More meaningful feedback on what it takes to reach the next level in your career. Set concrete expectations across the board to help maximize performance.
