I worked at Cisco Systems full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

It can be a good gig if you find the right manager. Lots of resources and training. A good place to learn.

Cons

Corporate overhead, reorganizations, scant pay raises and no promotions, not much upside.

Advice to Management

Too many missteps, bad M&A, failed products to many empty suits. Many of you need to move on.

    Pros

    Good pay and great benefits

    Cons

Lack of leadership. Top management has lost focus of what their key decision makers have been doing. Now they are playing catch up. Loss of focus is troublesome.

    Advice to Management

Pay attention to what your reports are doing with the responsibility you have delegated them and worry less about you career advancement.

I worked at Cisco Systems full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Flexible working hours and decent pay. They promote a health work and life balance. A good code of conduct in the work place.

    Cons

Big organizations tend to lose sight of people who are very valuable. Each year perks of the job seem to be less and less (free soda, force you to use mandatory PTO, ect).

    Advice to Management

Help develop employees more and give them more direction rather than tell them to take charge of their career. You are more senior and got there because you are able to spot where peoples strengths and weekness's are, so you would have valuable input as to where they should take their career.
