I have been working at Cisco Systems as a contractor (More than 8 years)

Pros

Culture of willingness to help and educate; lots of cross-team collaboration and mutual support (successful 80-90% of the time);

Cons

Very busy work days / weeks; difficult to insert personal development time / self education; expected 50+ hr weeks; Somewhat balanced by opportunities for work/life balance schedule / remote work

Advice to Management

More recognition for contingent workers who aren't eligible for bonuses, awards (most of the time), or other recognition programs - yet many times doing the same jobs / working alongside the FTEs. Also no programs for training / supporting career growth of contingent workforce - even after working as contingent for 5-10 years

    I worked at Cisco Systems as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

    Comfortable work environment. Flexible hours and many people work from home

    Cons

    Reorgs are constant. Bureaucracy strangles advancements. Leadership spends a lot of time protecting themselves and building their areas instead of really doing what's best for the business. I was seriously surprised to see a company like Cisco being run this way and more amazed that they've been successful in spite of it.

    Advice to Management

    Value the employees and the effects your decisions have on them. Lead the company to excellence instead of spending so much of the focus on your own interests and investments.
