I worked at Cisco Systems full-time (More than 10 years)

Pros

Was once a market leader with great innovation pipeline and wonderful , competitive and team oriented culture.

Cons

Missed the transition to Cloud and is desperately trying to shift it's application suite to Cloud. Cisco was unwilling to compete with itself or it's overbuilt channel and b/c of that it will need to make some significant headcount reductions and transitions. For all of the resellers out there this will mean Cisco will compete with it's channel in the long run. It has to in order to delver cloud capabilities.

Advice to Management

You have built a passive aggressive culture... Listen to your employees, change the culture and reinvigorate your potential. Look for strong leaders who are less focused on self promotion and more focused on recruiting, developing and retaining talent.

I have been working at Cisco Systems full-time

    Pros

flexibility to work from home, good work/life balance

    Cons

they keep cutting in the wrong places, no room for growth, constant layoff's and restructuring. getting ahead is all about who you know NOT what you actually contribute. they "grade" you on a bell curve and good/strong performers are pushed into the bottom b/c "someone has to be in the bottom".

    Advice to Management

Cut middle management, pay your executives less and put that money back into the company.

I worked at Cisco Systems as a contractor (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Great place to work and you're surrounded by people with good heart and dedication.

    Cons

Leadership is seriously lacking. Too many people with no understanding of technology and it's role in the new economy. Rather odd considering they ARE the core technology in so many enterprise solutions.

    Advice to Management

Flatten the structure, remove silos and really tackle festering issues that's been around for 10+ years.
