I have been working at Citi full-time (More than 10 years)

Pros

exciting, global work and opportunities, excellent for entry level analysts and project managers, generally good benefits, lots of smart and engaged people

Cons

bureaucratic decision making processes, no accountability at senior manager ranks, poor global planning; lack of common sense, disciplined planning across many functions within the business, many deadweight senior managers, poor internal systems and processes

I worked at Citi as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

Some great people and a wonderful place to work overall. Citi is a diverse collection of cultures and backgrounds. You will meet everyone from geniuses to raving lunatics. Most people are just "good people" who are dedicated to their families and their careers.

    Cons

Can be very political on the IT side. Success is not always measured in terms of getting things done. Sometimes the workarounds are similar to going across the street to the grocery store by walking in the opposite direction and waiting until you circle the globe.

    Advice to Management

Advice to IT management. Talk to the traders. They are smart and have clear opinions on what they need. Let the business measure success.

I worked at Citi as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - Pays well
    - Looks good on the resume for future career paths
    - Great people to work with in PB
    - Decent hours in PB and IB for that matter but if markets rally, expect to be there long hours

    Cons

    - Post 2009, the working culture has gone down.
    - A lot of the bankers were poached by JPM, GS, etc.
    - Doing way too much damage control, but seem to be bouncing back soon
