I have been working at Citi full-time (More than 8 years)

Pros

Good place to learn alot about the industry, and there is "ok" ability to move across different business groups depending on availability, luck, who you know, or better yet all three. Able to work with some really smart and dedicated colleagues. Global brand recognition, footprint, and training is good in certain business groups while others just throw you to the wolves.

Cons

Regulatory aspect is getting worse as the years go by, big government impedes the ability to do business well and it is affecting the whole industry. Micro-management is prevalent in some businesses. Some colleagues are amazing, others just don't care, and still others used to care but don't anymore. Massive layoffs the past few years have been terrible for morale. There's an underlying feeling that some of the goals in certain businesses are purposefully inflated so few can meet goal, let alone exceed goal, so then bonuses won't have to be paid. I've heard this from veteran sales people who were very successful for many years, but are suddenly "not making goal" anymore and placed on final notice. Very discouraging, and even for the sales people who are doing well in this environment their morale is low too. Strangely, there are also some people who do very little and get away with high compensation and outright laziness. Absolutely confounding.

I worked at Citi full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

New programs have a expectancy of 2 years.

    Cons

When programs are cancelled, employees are the last to know and will have to depend on rumors.

    Advice to Management

Transition employees to other positions or offer them a position.

  2. "Good exposure to a lot of departments/functions within the business, decent pay."

    Pros

Career advancement is possible however it is up to you, you obviously have to prove yourself...AND have a supportive manager. Granted there are a lot of great managers however there are some that do not belong. Your experience here will look great on a resume if you don't look to stay long term.

    Cons

Career growth is limited within Operations (one can only go so far) so look around within the business after putting in your time...pay is "decent" however one will only receive a significant raise if they are well liked/needed and threaten to leave OR if one leaves altogether for over a year and then returns.
