I have been working at Citi full-time (More than 10 years)

Pros

Working at Citi gives you an expanded view of the world. I like being associated with the largest financial company in the world(depending on how you measure).

Cons

Way too much emphasis on outsourcing, downsizing, "transforming". We are "following the sun" and adopting more ways to lighten the infrastructure. Elastic Cloud, VM servers - modeling companies like Yahoo and Amazon - no more work from home after 20 years - last 10 spent telecommuting. Micro management and over reporting of senseless information because they do not have the strongest leaders with a serious grip on technology to understand the impact of decisions made at a senior managing director level down to the worker bees that get it done. There is not an appreciation for long term years and the backs that have carried the company through all its problems. No bonus despite nearly 2 billion in profit last year just for Global Consumer Banking! No raise for 3 years and the last bump was < 1%.

Advice to Management

Give bonuses to those that have been here with the billions in profit - even if senior employees are salary capped! Give back the telecommuting benefit. Train employees with real classes. Increase 401k match from 6% to 7-8-9 depending on employee score. Prove to the core employees that they are an asset. Offer free banking. pick something or many things. The company has survived and thrived, even though the CEOs have not, because many employees stay on and contribute. How many hundreds of millions were given as bonues to the last 3 CEOs? Stop investing in offshoring work. Stop moving employees from New York to Texas (or really firing them). Stop giving out HUGE bonuses to senior executives and little to nothing to the worker bees. Stop being so greedy. That would change moral. That would "transform" the company and you would have AMAZING cooperation that you arent even aware of that you DO NOT have. I talked to a senior manager who was not aware of any grumbling with working conditions. Head in the sand or does no one care/respect him enough to tell him the truth? Management through intimidation? I use to love working at Citi. Now it's painful. Many in the ranks feel the same way and worse.

I worked at Citi full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Work-life balance was available if you asked. Plenty of opportunities within organization for career and advancement.

    Cons

Management turnover - too many high level managers leaving or taking new roles. It's like being on a boat without a rudder - trying to all paddle as hard as you can, but unable to get anywhere because you can't maintain a true direction!

Really screwed long-term employees by heavily touting stock ownership, forcing stock as part of bonus and then turning around and dilute shares by 90% with reverse split!

    Advice to Management

Get rid of the antiquated force-ranked evaluation process. So demoralizing to the ranks. Take care of long-term employees who helped build the company.
