Positive Outlook

I have been working at City of Houston full-time (More than 10 years)

Pros

Steady work, excellent training opportunities, good benefits, better than average retirement plan.

Cons

Pay below private sector, limited advancement opportunities, "institutional thinking".

Advice to Management

Stop trying to do all your employees' thinking for them. Realize that "personal accountability" needs to start at the top, not the bottom.

    Doesn't Recommend

I worked at City of Houston as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Gave me freedom to work on a project. Very supportive. Provided proper resources and personnel for me to complete the project. Learned a lot over the summer.

    Cons

Very laid back environment. You can push things too hard. If that is what you want, great. If you want an exciting, fast growth career, then you might want to seek for somewhere else.
