Recommends
Approves of CEO

Pros

Employee focused and friendly. Leadership is and shows interest in the employees. They do believe in work life balance. Good senior leadership. Compensation is very competitive. Friendly atmosphere at headquarters

Cons

Growing pretty fast has caused some employees to feel squeezed out. Still catching up on IT items and technology. There is limited knowledge sharing about what is going on at the mines.

Advice to Management

Focus a little more attention at the mines. Employees there are essential front liners.

    No opinion of CEO

    Pros

Pay and benefits package is by far the best around. On paper, the work force is treated well. Monthly bonus program and profit sharing help a bunch.

    Cons

Management has unreal expectations of crews. I believe that maintenance crews need to really FIX problems rather than put band aids on. Management system is messed up. Can be as many managers as operators, many of which have a real disconnect with those getting dirty.

    Advice to Management

Continue to run programs such as gainshare and quarterly profit sharing. Do NOT change the benefit package. Must learn to promote from within in a more proper manner. Must learn to watch the activities of Section Managers more closely. Their disconnect to what happens day to day is definitely apparent.

I worked at Cliffs Natural Resources full-time

    Pros

    Very good salary and benefits

    Cons

Poor corporate management in Cleveland. Not interested in the opinion of the locals. Thinks they can do the same thing in Canada as they do in the US.

    Advice to Management

Cliffs went bankrupt in Canada and if they have listened to the Canadian team they might have avoided losing $5 billion with the purchase of Consolidated Thompson.
