Pros

In engineering, the scope is broad and there are many opportunities for responsibility, working in open source, presenting at conferences, and occasionally interacting with customers big-and-small directly. Not only is the technical team is world-class (many phds/abd's), the folks have strong communication skills, public personalities, and dedciated to getting it done.

Cons

The aren't very many opportunities for straight-out-of-undergrad junior engineering folks currently. Those who have joined straight out of undergrad have generally spent a summer as an intern, or have demonstrated skill by being active in relevant open source projects.

    Pros

    Startup company that's growing steadily.
    Doesn't hire 'slouches'.
Good vision of where the company needs to go over the short and long term.
Technically strong, agile on market needs and willing to take risks for strategic goals.

    Cons

Normal start-up 'growing pains' associated with expansion, such as keeping good internal lines of communication, ensuring growth sections are fully 'onboarded' with company products, strategy and business processes.

I worked at Cloudera full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Not anymore. It used to be what seems like a vibrant startup - the days are long gun.

    Cons

The impression can be expressed very shortly: 'tis a hellhole. They haven't bear with the intensive growth from a smallish company to a bigger one. A number of core people have started jumping the boat because the initial good culture has never been preserved and new middle-level management has failed to do their job.

Don't go there because it is most dreadful place ran by guys and gals, who happen to have an impression that they have a biggest egoes in the city. Nay, universe!

Plus, the management is circa Sun Micro 2007+ - they all know what and _how_ engineers have to do their jobs and crack the whip every time they think you're deviating from the course. People who worked for Sun would know what I meant.

If you are looking for a good and cozy work place where your skills and brain will be appreciate - look someplace else. Seriously.

    Advice to Management

To the founders: dig your heads off the sand and see what the middle management does wrong. And they replace them. Otherwise, you soon will have no company to manage.

Stop considering every smart person who doesn't work for you as a deadly thread to your well being. A lot of people really don't care if you exist or not.
