Pros

The recruiters of Columbia Bank aim to form teams of patient and personable people who work hard and try their best do things right the first time. The recruiters and management take special care in the hiring process to ensure your personality fits well with the existing team. If they do it right, you will end up on a team who will quickly become your friends and those friends will help you have a great day, everyday. The provided benefits are fantastic, it will be hard to find better.

Cons

It's a high stress work environment if you are not completely comfortable with giving bad news to impatient customers. The primary cliental of Columbia Bank are Baby Boomers who are pleasant when all is well, but ultimately do not have a lot of patience for change or inexperienced employees. Pay is relatively low for the work we are doing, and the provided training allows you understand very basic transactions but almost nothing beyond that, the rest of the training is on-the-job or on your own. This job will exhaust you if you don't love your work. If you feel no satisfaction in being a banker, you will be very unhappy here.

Advice to Management

Be slow to anger, and affirm your team members whenever appropriate. Be approachable. Errors have to be presented to management immediately after they are discovered so that they can be rectified with minimal headache. If tellers attempt to hide the error they made, the error could create a mess that may result in a closed account or termination.

    Pros

    The people I work with are great. Benefits are good. My department has flexibility. The community values they work hard at to portray everyday is amazing.

    Cons

    The red tape , the politics , the titles are all too much. I have worked at other corporations and this company takes it to a whole new level. The pay is way below market standards. Doesn't matter what you do you will get no more than a 3% raise and no bonuses.

    Advice to Management

    Listen to the people that do the day in and day out work even though they may not have a VP title or higher, you wouldn't get your pay check without them.
