I worked at Columbia University full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Low stress
    - Supporting a university feels a bit more like working for a non-profit, which is rewarding.
    - Tuition reimbursement for you and immediate family

    Cons

    - Lowered expectations. Do not expect your co-workers to be stellar. Do not expect a challenge
    - Sometimes it feels like you are living in a Dilbert comic
    - Salary is laughable

    Advice to Management

Pay people more. This is NYC and you will not attract good talent without at least approaching the bell curve for IT expertise. Once you can pay them, you can attract better people and the overall quality of your output will increase dramatically. Right now you are stuck with people who either cannot do better (and therefore are not so good), are waiting to retire, or want tuition for their kids.

Support staff is a bit transitional at the moment

    Advice to Management
