I worked at Comedy Central as an intern (Less than a year)

Pros

Viacom as a parent company is an excellent place to secure an internship. The HR and internship coordinators are organized and helpful. My experience in the Consumer Marketing department was quite fulfilling. My managers were friendly, welcoming, and were eager to teach me. I learned a lot over the semester.

Cons

The office is quite small and there were some slow days where there was not much work to be done.

I worked at Comedy Central full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    -Friendly, casual, relaxed culture
    -Some depts. get summer Fridays
    -Many fun and creative people
-Impressive on a resume and at parties
-Nice benefits package if you're staff
-Work with a lot of fun and funny TV content
-Very good, supportive environment for working parents (both moms and dads), also fair to people without kids who need flexibility or time off for personal or family issues

    Cons

-Outdated technology, not enough tech support
-Lack of resources (people, $, equipment)
    -Slow to change
-A lot of turnover, reorgs that lead to confusion about who's in charge of things today
-Not very digital savvy... its still all about the broadcast priorities
-Low pay compared to many competitors
-Permalance culture--company depends on freelancers, but they rarely get converted to staff
-Some people who aren't great at what they do hang on for years, for reasons no one can explain
    -Hiring process very slow
-Fair amount of red tape b/c it's part of a huge corporation (Viacom)
-Some depts. have no opportunity for advancement--you may be able to take on additional responsibilities but you may not get a title or salary bump

I worked at Comedy Central as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

Great content, learn a lot, chill atmosphere, cool people, nice office, great job to tell people at cocktail parties, looks great on resume and many people get better paying jobs elsewhere after leaving

    Cons

VIACOM is notoriously cheap, if you start as freelance it'll take an arm and a leg to get a staff position, promotions in general take forever and you need to ask for them or it will never happen, to make the money you deserve you'll probably have to leave the company

    Advice to Management

Create more incentive to work hard, keep your talented folks, make staff positions more viable
