Pros

Great place to work at, it is stable if you are affiliated to a union and good benefits

Cons

Low pay maybe. But, you can move up in other departments.

Advice to Management

Bureaucracy. It takes a while sometimes for a decision on a simple issue to be made.

I have been working at Commonwealth of Massachusetts part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great seasonal job in the summer. Usually from the end of June to the end of August.
Decent pay for the work you do. You get paid on break as a lifeguard.
Fun and relaxing, most coworkers are very nice and sociable

    Cons

Not much career growth. As a lifeguard, you either stay as a lifeguard, or move up to a head lifeguard. You can be an assistant manager of the facility or manager.
Some days can be really treacherous, especially on super hot and humid days when staff are low.
Most of the out door pool buildings are very old
Outdoor pools aren't that clean compared to indoor pools

    Advice to Management

    Renovate some of the buildings?

I worked at Commonwealth of Massachusetts full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

There is the potential to assist clients and to do real good. Often there is exposure to cases that enable the use of a broad skill set.

    Cons

The overlayering of supervisors and managers on the basis of political connections hampers advocacy for clients that do not meet a preconceived agenda.

    Advice to Management

Recognize a broader set of objectives. Empower case workers to apply assistance beyond a narrow performance matrix.
