Pros

Fast growing industry. Global growth in Europe and Asia. Provides flexible work schedules. Management generally receptive but limited in its vision.

Cons

organizational structure single dimensional. Suited for some one looking for vertical functional growth. Limited professional growth opportunities for anyone looking to broaden experience in general management.

Advice to Management

provide more career growth tracks for engineers. Regional offices are starving of executive attention, more visits and conversations with employees needed.

    Pros

    * Superior senior management with clear vision and strong communication
    * History of making smart, game changing moves in the industry
    * Industry leading solutions that set the pace and tone of the market
    * Strong core values that truly represent and define the company culture
    * Passionate, engaged employees who are very committed to the success of the company
    * High caliber of people to work with
    * Professional, but fun environment
    * Overall, great culture of friendly, like minded people
    * Company usually acknowledges mistakes/flaws and works to improve on them

    Cons

    * Fast pace and frequent change is good for the company, but isn't an ideal fit for everyone
    * The caliber of middle management isn't always as high as it should be, but the company seems to be making efforts to improve on this
    * In general, expectations are very high. Environment tends to be flexible and results oriented, but the results expected can be steep and it isn't a place for people who want an "easy" job.
    * Because expectations are high, don't expect to automatically advance your career through tenure. Concur is an environment where you have to earn advancement by going far above and beyond the expectations of your job, regardless of experience or tenure. That said, the company makes a strong effort to recognize and promote such high performers. However, just doing your job well isn't enough - which is likely the root of some of the unsatisfied comments about advancement on this site.
    * Compensation philosophy isn't consistent, some business groups pay better than industry average while others pay at or below industry average.

    Advice to Management

    * Continue to raise the bar for middle management and promote for leadership qualities, not just solid performance as an individual contributor and/or social connections.
    * Find more ways to recognize strong performers so that you aren't ignoring the value of your A & A- players while focusing on a small group of A+ players. No company can be ALL A+ employees and ignoring your strong A's and B's will result in a breakdown of the whole. The A+ employees tend to depend on the efforts of their teams to be as great as they are.
    * As the company grows, don't loose sight of your focus on employees. Maintaining the outstanding record of profit and revenue growth is important, but not as important as maintaining the quality of the talent that got you there. If the employees bear the brunt of belt tightening, top performers will be lured away and company culture will deteriorate.
