Approves of CEO

I have been working at Construction Industry Service Corporation full-time (More than 10 years)

Pros

Great flexible benefits, WFH, and very autonomous. John Chambers is one of the greatest CEOs in history of technology companies. Very caring organization in terms of employee and family welfare; trying hard to reinvent itself as a cool place to work.

Cons

Too much bureaucracy and slowness to make decisions. Cisco has gotten itself In the very bad habit of annual limited restructures which doesn't help build employee loyalty and engagement.

Advice to Management

Communicate early and often; increase speed of decision making because this is a real drag on productivity

I worked at Construction Industry Service Corporation full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

More work-life balance. If you want to change your role, Cisco being a large organization, it can provide many such opportunities. They are very quick on starting your GC process which in many companies takes a long time.

    Cons

Slow promotion, favoritism, many levels of ineffective management. You need to make noise in order to get noticed. You are not rewarded inspite of your hard work if you are not the favorite. There are many employees who work slower than a snail but still get promoted. The interview process is very liberal and easy, so the quality of your peers is not at par with the industry outside Cisco.

    Advice to Management

Reduce the levels of management, be selective in the recruiting process and offer perks to keep the employees happy.

    Pros

Leader in every field they enter. Strong focus on being number 1 or 2 in field.

    Cons

Many promotions seem unrelated to experience, esp. relating to the ability to manage people. Multiple are in people management positions with little ability to manage people.

    Advice to Management

Consider people management skills as much as technical skills in selecting for promotion.
