I worked at Consumer Financial Protection Bureau as an intern (Less than a year)

Pros

Coworkers are bright and motivated. Bureau has a start-up feel. Open management structure. Doesn't feel overly bureaucratic. Management will listen if you have suggestions on how to do something in a different/better way than it is currently being done. Pay is competitive with private sector.

Cons

There is not enough staff for all of the work that there is to be done, so it can feel overwhelming at times.

Advice to Management

Keep doing what you're doing.

    Young, fresh and new organization.

    Cons

Faster than others, but still slow government pace

    Advice to Management

Let go of the familiar to embrace the new

I have been working at Consumer Financial Protection Bureau full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Management sees its employees as its greatest assets. In my own opinion, management willingness to accommodate every employees needs including the ones that are nonsensical could actually demoralized the high performers.

    Cons

Management sometimes bend too much backward to accommodate unappreciative employees. Performance appraisals should be changed to a system that will encourage everyone employee to want to perform at a high level and should include impressive compensation for high performers.

    Advice to Management

    You cannot please everyone.
