    "Used to like them...now don"

I have been working at Convergence Marketing

    Pros

When I reviewed this company back in September, I mostly enjoyed working for them. I had a good area manager (still have her) and the work was somewhat plentiful (which it still is). The work I've done has mostly been either one of two things: resets for cosmetics (or for gift cards in convenience stores) or continuity work in box stores. At times there are projects (like around Halloween or Christmas). I'm not... sure how much work I've done for them - I know it is well over 100 jobs and at times they have put me up in a hotel if I was traveling to do a route for them to get work done in hard-to-reach areas.

    Cons

The company has changed their policy for travel and I know that my manager seems to feel she tries her best to get her reps a "fair" rate. But to me it isn't fair that what used to be a $50 trip now pays $35....or a $75 trip pays $60. If my husband and I traveled together to do cosmetic resets, we each got the $50 for the trip even though we shared one vehicle. This last time, I received $41 ($35 plus a bit for... travel time) and he received $14. Do you think we're going to want to do their reset next January for that? (I DOUBT IT!). I understand that times are tough and merchandising companies are having to tighten their belt. But to change the policy so that the first 30 miles each way is a "reasonable" commute (here in SW Texas - 30 miles leaves me in cell hell with no reception and in the middle of a cow patch). is ridiculous. In my area, from what I've had several companies tell me, it is hard to find a reliable merchandiser - especially one who will travel. To repay my willingness to travel (often 200 miles or so to work a route and help out ) by cutting my incentive mileage pay is a slap in the face. I can't tell the gas pump "sorry...I'm not getting as much pay...so can you reduce my bill by 10%?" One of the biggest benefits for me before while working for this company was the travel pay...yes, I made great money to travel - but I was hitting those honky tonk little places where you couldn't find someone to go. No more!

    Advice to Management

Rethink your travel incentive for reps who travel a lot. I understand that you need to tighten expenses somewhere but this was not the way to do it. To the people considering this company: If you're going to stay in your own little town and just do work there - then Convergence is ok to work for. My area manager is great at communication and she's awesome to work with. But if you are willing to travel... because you like to travel or you like the extra money - stay away from this company because they simply aren't worth it.
