    Pros

Thus far the best place in Silicon Valley I've worked. Highly pro-employee, flexible, accommodating of your individual needs. For many companies, culture is about a foosball table, fancy beanbag furniture, vibrant paint on the walls, and copycating Google, LinkedIn or Facebook's workplace aesthetic - and then they work you half to death. Sure, many have great activities. But what's important is that the culture is reflected from the CEO down to the people who make up the foundation of the company. it feels like a family. If people aren't working insanely past 10 p.m. to show how dedicated they are, they are not looked down upon. If they need to leave early to avoid traffic on Hwy 101, they're not judged. There are generally nobody with big heads to make life miserable for others. Some of the leaders not only have great expertise but are kind and great people. A lot of the older concerns reflected in past Reviews no longer apply. Conviva has made great strides to make all branch offices feel like the corporate office, and the corporate office does not have a smug nor superior attitude to those from branch offices. Convivans are Convivans regardless of which branch they check into.

The company gives people opportunities to develop, excel and explore new ways of doing things. This is a place to land and expand what you can do - and what you could do for your next position or job function.

The rank and file are exceptional people - highly competent, professional, friendly and capable. I've enjoyed working with just about everybody - a testament to great recruiter/HR efforts. The leadership, for the most part, have been fantastic professionals.

    Cons

There has been a lot of change, and I believe it is for good, but it can create feelings of uncertainty among the rank and file, especially if the outcome takes time to achieve.

    Advice to Management

It would be valuable to allow more rank-and-file input towards major changes.

    I worked at Conviva full-time

    Pros

Competitive salary, startup perks (gym subsidy, catered meals), talented coworkers (mostly).

Functioning base product, good established customer base in the publisher segment, size of dataset serves as barrier to entry for new competitors.

    Cons

There were quite a few - leadership competence, product stagnation and very long-term unresolved tech debts were the most significant in my opinion. Also:

    - Employee churn is exceptionally high.
    - Management is surprisingly disconnected from day-to-day reality for a company this small.
    - Growth expectations and sales comp plans are unrealistic (repeatedly, year after year).
    - Customer expectations are frequently not met; products have not matured in years and have fallen industry trends behind due to lack of innovation. Some great "bones" here but atrophy has set in the last 2-3 years.
    - People in leadership roles make strange, inexplicable decisions (about hiring, retention, org structure, company and product direction) and are often unable to articulate them beyond jargon and buzzwords.
    - Company feels like it is thrashing - firing 1/3 of employees in Q4, then apparently re-hiring many of the same roles in Q1.
    - Getting anything done is difficult when many are new (to the company or the industry in general) and all organizations are suffering the staffing impacts from the October layoff. Staffing levels, in engineering in particular, make reasonable customer support or escalation responses impossible.
    - Some valuable personnel are leaving voluntarily, others are job-hunting.

    Advice to Management

Listen to the pleas from employees and customers - the needs have been consistent for a while. These are largely solvable problems.

    De-politicize decision making.

Staff and promote based on merit - there are good people there who can help, if you let them.
