Negative Outlook
No opinion of CEO

I worked at Corbis as a contractor (Less than a year)

Pros

Nice downtown office.
Majority of people are friendly.

Cons

Very disorganized technology stack and procedures.
Marketing management have very little technical knowledge, yet they still insist on making ill-informed decisions regarding web development.
Long hours, they recently downsized from 6 devs to 2, yet expect the same amount of productivity.

Advice to Management

Listen to your devs, and don't overwork them. This is a town where it's very easy to move on to another job.

I have been working at Corbis full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Bill Gates Company
    Good Salary and Benefits
    Good Work Life Balance
Excellent images and imagery - great for creative people to join the company

    Cons

    High Turnover in the company
No Vision and constantly changing direction
IT executives are very junior, no real world complex system experience - no motivation for smart people to join IT group
Takes too long to do small things
Too many rumors of people and their personal behaviors/relationships.
Execs are hard to find - all on vacation or work from home every other week or travel for vacation or business together

    Advice to Management

Keep the creative team add more talent. Listen to them not to sales people.
Bring new strong IT executives with relevant experience. Change or move current IT execs to different role. (see other posts on glassdoor). Ra Ra can only carry you so far.

I have been working at Corbis full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

used to be the people, but even that is now dwindling. good benefits package. nice office space.

    Cons

unrealistic expectations. zero room for growth. management is a combination of manipulative and 98% absent or unavailable. Have no clue the contribution(s) made by senior (Seattle) management to the organization. No importance or value placed on people who have long-term industry knowledge. "Rules" are constantly changing so you dont where you stand, nor what sort of job security you have.

    Advice to Management

There are good, smart, capable people still left here. Figure it out. Figure how to retain them and do what you can to create a better more positive environment. People are totally demotivated and deincentivized. "You should be thankful you have a job at all" is just not the way to run a successful business, one which Corbis has not ever been, but always had potential. Now? Im not so sure.
