Approves of CEO

Pros

- Exciting pipeline
- Pay is competitive
- Decent benefits
- CEO is kind, warm and optimistic
- Convenient location

Cons

- Not a modern Bay Area company by any stretch of the imagination
- Very much behind the times when it comes to operational efficiencies and work ethics
- Management lacks emotional intelligence
- Slackers are tolerated and others have to work harder because of it
- No HR department resulting in disparate treatment of employees (favoritism, issues swept under the rug, unprincipled employees take advantage of the system)
- No growth opportunities
- CEO is largely unavailable, so the president runs the show

Advice to Management

Be more proactive in handling the employees that don't pull their weight. Award those that make valuable contributions. Address counterproductive management styles and handle employee complaints with professionalism. Invest in employee education and development. Abandon the archaic work style. Communicate with employees so they aren't always left wondering what's really going on.

I worked at Corcept Therapeutics full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great people, incredibly intelligent and respectful... but not necessarily experienced in what they are trying to achieve.

    Cons

Not sure they have the best team in place to lead in the complicated world of pharma

    Advice to Management

Work with the people who do the day to day job and manage the people you lead. Give people responsibility AND authority to do their job.

    Approves of CEO

    Pros

The salaries are very competitive, even high compared to other pharmaceutical companies. CEO is warm, communicative and the employees like and respect him.

    Cons

There is a great deal of secrecy and lack of communication with employees from the president. The good people leave and under-performers are tolerated. There are no consequences for not performing and no incentives to do a great job.

    Advice to Management

We need HR! There are no clear rules - every employee is treated differently according to his/her supervisor's whim. Company needs to step up and show more professionalism and less favoritism.
