I worked at Corning as a contractor (More than a year)

Pros

Professional Atmosphere, all the people I encountered were competent and very willing to help.

Cons

Politics got in the way of real business sometimes, especially at the senior management level.

Advice to Management

Stop playing politics and do whats right for the company, you wouldn't need to lay off so many people if you had done this before.

I have been working at Corning full-time

    Pros

Good working culture, exposure to various sectors

    Cons

Highly person dependent organisation, at least in India

I have been working at Corning full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great opportunities for lateral growth into multiple aspects of the business. Reasonably good benefits (but not as good as they used to be). The people you work with are among some of the greatest people you'll ever work with - Corning generally hires as much for culture fit as for experience/skill set.

    Cons

Lack of consistency on benefits between facilities in the same country. Corporate is starting to seem really removed from the businesses they think they "run". No longer understand that the businesses "hunt" and corporate "eats."

    Advice to Management

Stop trying to fit every business to a single model. You can't have a diverse, cash-rich portfolio while trying to force those diverse businesses into a rigid clone of the other businesses.
