    Pros

I work in the lab of the county we are busy all the time, but my experience has been great. The lab is flexible, and always give you opportunities to move ahead. They're definitively open to work from home where applicable.

    Cons

The workload in the lab can be overwhelming and there are periods of understaffing which makes everything worse

    Pros

Paid time off - holidays, vacation, sick time are all generous. Not unlimited but better than most retail or consulting jobs. Large organization can allow you to move around if your skills are marketable. Full benefits package - medical, dental, vision, long and short term disability available. PPO/HMO plans. FSA or HSA optional. Benefits depend on your job class. Depending on department and manager training is available if your job affords you available hours for training. Wellness program and incentives. Yoga/ meditation/zumba classes. Discounted produce. Job security for classified "protected" jobs, hard to get fired. Salary is advertised, either step based or broadband. Women and men are hypothetically paid equally. Annual reviews, opportunity for annual raises if you are not at the top of you job salary. Transit/ parking pass reimbursement (partial) Minimal tuition reimbursement Employer discounts thru perkspot, pretty standard for a large organization Access to Anthem EAP services. Pension.

    Cons

Bureaucracy. Organizational structure and reliance on chain of command in many departments. Trends to have alot of micro management stories Dictatorships. HR is not a resource, they are more of a cover front. Turn over can be high. Institutional knowledge. New Board of supervisor term limits makes things extremely faced paced and constantly changing. Subject to political will/ politics. Pay can be limiting, not very competitive with private sector. New pension tiers are not as good. Pension automatically comes out of pay check. Lowering take home pay. Once you max out your salary in your position there is no additional financial incentive except to apply for a new job at a higher level. Can limit opportunity for growth and financial incentives. Culture. Extremely high expectations Depending on department work life balance is non existent... work work work and then life
