I worked at Crane Aerospace & Electronics full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

At Crane in Redmond, generally good co-workers in most departments. Many long term employees who can teach you the "Crane Way".
Plenty of opportunities to pick up responsibilities after co-workers resign.

Cons

Management doesn't show appreciation for the employees. It's entirely focused on cutting cost and sending profit to Crane corporate in Connecticut. When the economy was tough, employees had little choice but to put up with it.
Turnover is increasing. With the improving economy, good employees are more able to leave for better places to work. As a result, the concentration of mediocre to poor talent is going up
There aren't signs that mgmt will remedy the problems. It reinforces the perception that the well being of the rank and file isn't a concern..

Advice to Management

Recognize your employees are your most valuable asset, and start acting accordingly. If the economy continues to improve, and if it becomes an "employee market" (as versus an "employer market"), Crane will lose talent. And will have a very hard time attracting replacement talent. You must make changes or your reputation as a place to work will become a bigger albatross around your neck. Don't let that happen. Turn it around. Performance appraisals and merit increases are coming in the next few months. Don't be cheap with the merit pool. Ditch the failed experiment with "forced ranking", good companies have abandoned it.

    Doesn't Recommend
    Negative Outlook
    No opinion of CEO

I have been working at Crane Aerospace & Electronics as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

None that I know of. The time I spent there was a completely frustrating experience. Find another place to work.

    Cons

Culture is impossible to get things done in. All the good people are leaving or have left because they can't accomplish anything due to all the indecision regarding technical direction. Products have serious design flaws which aren't allowed to be addressed because upper management has promised delivery of the product. Engineers who speak up and mention this are shunned or ignored. Overall terrible place to work.

    Advice to Management

Let lower level managers dictate schedule and performance and stop asking for status updates every 10 minutes. Stop wasting the talent that hasn't left yet in pointless meetings.
