I have been working at Crate and Barrel full-time (More than 10 years)

Pros

Flexible career tracks, humane managers, and fun, creative, intelligent co-workers.

Cons

Since recent re-org, the flexible career track is now in question. Current top down, one-size-fits-all corporate direction makes me question my continued track, plus seems to ignore the individuality from store-to-store that made this brand as successful as it has been to date.

Advice to Management

SPEAK UP TO CORPORATE and YOUR REGIONALS. The individual managers need to stop being "yes-men" and make it clear the stores' needs! NYC area needs to re-train their managers to not treat their staff with indifference and GET ON THE SALES FLOOR.

    Pros

    The people, coworkers and clients
    The discount
    Flexibilty

    Cons

Corporates lack of understanding of longevity and loyalty. Employees are not rewarded for these valuable attributes. From what I hear from friends who feel "stuck" there, the restructuring and new policies have left them feeling very unhappy.

    Advice to Management

Customer service is diminishing, product selection can be found at other retailers. If they continue to loose the very people who built the company, the future is bleak.

I have been working at Crate and Barrel full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Nice discount, nice products, great coworkers.

    Cons

Absolutely horrible work atmosphere due to lack of competent management, incredibly low morale, fake forced smiles and humor, managers that say they care but are pathetic louses, over worked and underpaid associates, appointed floor managers that aren't managers what so ever so the real "managers" can sit in their offices and catch up, happy go lucky attitudes amongst the regional associates that act like the change is for the better, the list can go on and on. You dont want to work here.

    Advice to Management

Go back to the time when Crate and Barrel cared about their associates.
