I have been working at Crate and Barrel part-time (Less than a year)

Pros

The people are great and the work place is is laid-back. While focused on sales like anywhere else, C&B does not make you upsell and is not goal-obsessed. Staff is pretty knowledgeable and really go above and beyond for customers. My managers also take the time to interact with me and there is a strong sense of community among the staff members for events like babies, birthdays, leaving, etc. I like that there is a large focus at Crate on really knowing your product. It makes it so the customer trusts you and so that you can really provide people with what they need.

Cons

Not much room for advancement--some inefficiencies is business operations.

Advice to Management

Allow long-term associates to advance.

I have been working at Crate and Barrel full-time

    Pros

    Hard to find any positives

    Cons

Morale at all time lows. Too many closed doors. Closed doors make people outside of them uneasy. Lack of community. More of an "us" vs. "them" mentality. Management vs. staff. Lack of respect. Obvious division between management and staff.

    Advice to Management

Get out of your office. And say something positive to the staff when you do come out.

I worked at Crate and Barrel full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great product. Kitchen access for breaks. Discount. Vacation.

    Cons

Management is often cliquish and given to promoting "friends." Loss of company culture. New processes are re-hash of what's not fully working at other retailers.

    Advice to Management

Don't answer class from your mother.in.law during meetings. Don't judge people until you've seen their performance for yourself. Don't be so quick to dismiss the old ways in favor of the latest trends. Do promote from within. Do what is right, not what is easy. Learn how to value honesty.
