I worked at Credit Suisse full-time (More than a year)

Pros

great benefits :-). relatively relaxed, very international company. culture open and fairly tolerant, less cut-throat than at other investment banks. management easily accessible. great corporate culture. great place to work overall (not taking into account specific group).

Cons

quite conservative in terms of doing business. swiss stamp is a positive in some ways and a negative in others. investment banking energy group had brutal hours -- expected, but still no lifestyle.

Advice to Management

is it possible to start taking more risk? the street views CS as a super-conservative place. Brady has done a great job (in my personal opinion), but CS trades at a discount to other swiss banks (UBS)

I have been working at Credit Suisse full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    Good junior talent pipeline
    401K plan
    Work life balance

    Cons

Mid level IT management have been there for too long. They have no vision or only talk big ideas, promote check the box exercises, over promise, don't spend enough time building career paths for others, have no power, show no accountability and move around into newer roles every few years making big bucks. They do not make any attempt to ensure fair compensation throughout the organization and are focused on cost cutting and creating new process that increases bureaucracy, lowers morale and ensures systems remain out dated. The good talent is walking out of the door and is being replaced by mediocre people.

    Advice to Management

Review performance of all IT staff at director level by doing a 360 degree review with people under them.

Ensure business doesn't treat IT as a pure cost center and have business leaders partner rather than push for results without investment

Demand product line IT heads to show results than stability.

I have been working at Credit Suisse full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good, hard working co-workers, management looks to retain good talent with internal mobility options.

    Cons

Too many cost cutting measures in recent years have left most teams well understaffed. At the same time workload has increased.
