I have been working at Credit Suisse full-time (More than 5 years)

Pros

CS is an excellent company to work for fresh out of college. Most of the employees are friendly and will aid in training. Depending the team CS has flexible work hours and a limited work from home option. It's a professional environment and a great opportunity for a recent graduate to enter onto the workforce.

Cons

CS in RTP, NC is a cost saving location. Most of the jobs are operational which means throughout the years management encourages lateral movement. It's very difficult to move out of operation positions.

Advice to Management

Management in product control and financial management should consider resumes submitted by internal operation employees instead of hiring externally. Current employees excepted operational roles so they can have a platform to advance to these positions.

I worked at Credit Suisse full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Excellent company culture, very accepting and not too intense for an investment bank. Varied and diverse career tracks available with strong focus on growth.

    Cons

Not very well organized, some departments are almost dysfunctional while others are very efficient. Difficult to advance.

    Advice to Management

There are some excellent ideas and initiatives to focus on employee development, specifically the Grow Your Own program. Management & HR seem invested in the idea and it makes sense, however upper management needs to do a better job implementing it. The current focus on cost cutting is too myopic and will prove to be detrimental for CS to reach its lofty goal of "Most Admired Bank".

I worked at Credit Suisse full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good benefits, great if you are new college grad, good training opportunities. By and large, the local mgmt was very friendly. Mgmt also supported flexible hours within reason.

    Cons

Very active in trying to keep salaries in the area low. Typical investment bank; view s/w developers as resources rather than assets. Also, much of the work was staff augmentation, meaning that architectural design and higher level decisions were made/driven by primary locations (London, New York). Also, due to off site dev centers (Singapore, India), off hours work was common.

    Advice to Management

View your IT department an asset rather than a cost center. Co-located development does not work.
