Pros

Stable company, not a lot of turnover, most people have been with the company for 10+ years. Lots of learning opportunities, company paid education benefit and frequent communications from senior managers. Overall a supportive place to work.

Cons

HR policies are out-dated. Policies around promotion/transfer are written in conflict with one another. Takes a loud voice to get promoted. Certainly has its "good-old-boy" moments.

Advice to Management

Take a hard look at succession planning and the policies surrounding growth within the company. Don't over-promise and under-deliver.

    Pros

The company has a rich history and feeling of pride in the company. The commitment to safety and operational integrity is inspiring and reassuring. The company treats long-standing employees very well.

    Cons

It is easy for a loyal but mediocre employees to move up the ranks over the years. As a result, the quality of work is compromised.

    Advice to Management

The leadership at Crowley needs to invest more in corporate communications. Often, publications, slogans, and messages are composed with awkward phrasing and generally low quality.

    Pros

Crowley has a good benefits package

    Cons

Working in Crowley IT is way more stressful than it needs to be. The IT department is woefully understaffed, resulting in quick burnout and lots of things not getting done. IT management desperately wants respect from business stakeholders, but with the current structure and management style, it's not going to happen. technology upgrades take way to long, and Crowley has come up with its own implementation methodology that is just, well, a joke. Processes are defined and never followed, and management backpedals at their convenience, creating further confusion. Furthermore, people get thrown under buses all too frequently, and management tends to point out what you're doing wrong more than what you're doing right.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of narrow-minded department barons who don't want to cooperate with others, and who can't take constructive criticism. Increase headcount if you want to make the IT group effective.
