I have been working at Cullen/Frost Bankers part-time (More than a year)

Pros

Great hours and some great people to work with. Customers are awesome. There is always a retail related contest going on to motivate employees.

Cons

It is very hard to get promoted to the next level. Even with experience and education. Hard to stay focused in some of the slower locations. The pay could be a little better but banks ususally do not have high wages.

Advice to Management

Look for new ways to show employees they are appreciated. Most of us want to be here.

I worked at Cullen/Frost Bankers full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great people and very smart individuals work for frost.

    Cons

The company preaches culture, culture culture however they will turn your back on you at the drop of a dime. going through the FCU program i saw many upper management employees act inappropriately however the moment a younger person did they would get terminated or reprimanded.

    Advice to Management

drop the good ole boy network open your eyes to how you have a double standard, and don't preach culture if you are going to turn your back on an employee quickly.

    Pros

Senior financial management is very capable and keeps the company on as sure a footing as a banking organization can have these days. There are many who have found it a worthy place to work for 40+ years. The primary business is banking, so those bank holidays are a nice plus. Job security is probably higher than most, even for the mediocre. The brand is well-respected.

    Cons

Relatively high job security means that the place is crowded - often with no room for advancement. It is also more highly networked, because of the long tenure employees have. This means that merit plays a significantly diminished role in hiring and promotions. Development of employees is not a priority, likely due to long tenure and a crowded workforce. The most talented and ambitious tend to move on.

    Advice to Management

It seems that those who find growth opportunities elsewhere are seen as traitors by HR, staff development, and other management. The company would benefit by realizing that many don't really want to leave. Rather, they are forced to either let their careers atrophy or leave.
