"Uptight" is putting it mildly. Senior management consists of control freaks and bullies who demand a rigid and unyielding work environment. Arriving early is frowned upon. Arriving late is punishable by firing. Cell phones are absolutely forbidden, breaks are rigidly timed, and employees are treated like cogs in a machine. Beyond that, however, management has a very difficult time with communication. Instructions are delivered haphazardly and in confusing terms, and employees are expected to respond with absolute perfection. Benefits are non-existent, and the hierarchy is brutal and unforgiving. Expect to be shown your place and to stick to it, no matter how many humiliations rain down on you.
