I have been working at D2L full-time (More than 5 years)

Pros

The office space is great, the people are amazing, and up until now the culture has been something most work places don't have.... casual, friendly, open.

Cons

pay isn't quite what it should be
The culture is changing and good or bad has yet to be determined

Advice to Management

Don't let the company lose who it is.

I worked at D2L as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

There is a lot of room to learn at Desire2Learn, especially if you're interested in Microsoft technologies like C#, Microsoft SQL Server, or Azure. D2L always uses the latest Microsoft technologies. Your workstation is fully-loaded, with 8-cores, 16GB of RAM, dual monitors and the latest Windows OS.

There are a lot of different teams at D2L. I didn't switch teams, but I'd imagine there's a lot of variety of work possible there.

They have ping-pong, foosball, air hockey, some snacks, and a rooftop a patio with BBQs and hammocks. The perks are pretty nice.

The Tannery is also a fantastic building. It's really inspiring.

The management team seems really down-to-earth.

    Cons

The company seems to be more satisfied with fulfilling contracts with other companies or clients instead of producing the best product possible for everyone. They value features over simplicity.

The company is changing its organizational structure, and I'm not sure it's going in the right direction. The company seems to be getting too large and the teams are getting too disconnected.

People sometimes have to work really long hours due to unreasonable deadlines, or not having enough staff working on one particular problem.

Pay isn't as great as other companies in the industry and in the area.

    Advice to Management

Form more cohesion among teams. Stress work-life-balance more, and stop the planning group from making deadlines that are unreasonable.
