Approves of CEO

I have been working at DICK'S Sporting Goods part-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

If you work hard, it will get noticed; most managers I've worked with are friendly and take their jobs seriously.

Cons

Pay rates are not the best; benefits for part-time associates are minimal; even full-time employees don't get more than 30 hours a week sometimes; lacking leadership within some departments.

Advice to Management

Better pay scale for part-time employees and consistent scheduling, or at least less variation of scheduling from week to week.

I have been working at DICK'S Sporting Goods full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Work with things that you love, meet to people who have similar interest. You get good employees’ discounts.

    Cons

High turnover due to the low tech operations, erratic and conflicting scheduling (even after clearly stating availability), expectation or pressure for associates to do more than what they are hired for. For examples: doing the work of two or more associates for extended periods of time (4 to 8 hours); irregular breaks/lunch (5 to 6 hours for a break, lunch, or both) for the same previous reason, you are the only person covering that department; providing operations support ((offloading trucks, work in the warehouse)), housekeeping other departments and the restrooms; working beyond the scheduled hours (some managers won’t allow employees to leave after closing until all, not just you, employees finish their close-out tasks). This could be a learning or motivating experience for some people but not for most (like teachers, coaches, etc, that are supplementing their income).

    Advice to Management

Good for you for learning the company’s sales policies and quotas, but how about also learning and using basic personnel mentoring and management techniques. Further, it is a new millennium, post or email schedules, post schedules 2 to 3 weeks in advance (if you can’t do this, you are not organized or ahead of the power curve). Terminals at each department for quick inventory, pricing check (yes, you can use the UPC gun, but only if you can find one!). Why ask for feedback if you are not going to do anything, not even acknowledg receiving it!
