I have been working at DICK'S Sporting Goods (More than a year)

Pros

Better than Wal-Mart, built in good social environment.

Cons

Your job experience is generally at the mercy of the area that you are working in. Different problems depending on whether you are in a rich or poor neighborhood. As is common in most retail positions, management could take or leave you as the turn over rate is generally so high.

I have been working at DICK'S Sporting Goods part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Store discount, Online discounts, You meet some very nice people,

Working here part time can point you in two directions: Either, you want to become part of management and move very slowly up the line, or you can get a reality check and find out that you are being paid nothing to work horrible hours and you will continue your career search elsewhere.

    Cons

Pay, Hours, Weekends/Holidays, People will always complain about something, Many times you will find that your supervisors are less qualified and competent than you might be (that's just retail for you), There is always some type of disconnect among the managers.

    Advice to Management

Stop thinking you know everything, take advice or appreciate your employees. Chances are they have more experience than you do in most areas.

Ex: It is hard to take someone seriously who has never worked in sporting goods but managed a grocery store. That type of management isn't the same.

I have been working at DICK'S Sporting Goods full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Having a job, Team environment, growth opps if you brown nose the right ppl. Coachable employees at my store, TV's on the sales floor

    Cons

As company goes from transforming itself from a retailer to brand, they have rethink a lot of different thnigs. the processes that are getting installed are great, but you have to let the store teams master them first, before add more and more on the plate.

Morale is a 911. its the most thankless organization that I have worked for.

    Advice to Management

Grow your own talent and promote within instead of hiring random SM's from other companies when you have men and women busting their humps night and day coming in on days off just to get looked over.
