I have been working at DICK'S Sporting Goods part-time (More than a year)

Pros

If you like sports, and wish to share that knowledge with others, than it can be a great atmosphere for you. Also, if you truly enjoy working with customers, than you may also enjoy many of the encounters. The employee discount is more than several other retail companies, at 25% of regular price. The wide array of sporting related services they offer can be a great boon to customer interaction.

Cons

Depending on the size of your store, certain policies and practices may be very ineffective and impractical. Like all businesses, strives for bare minimum payroll, to the point of under-staffing, which causes problems not only with workflow, but also with customer satisfaction. Does not offer more than minimum wage pay for most positions, unless necessary. Pushes its sales metrics to the point of being constantly unsatisfied.

Advice to Management

Although I understand the high cost of payroll, be aware of how under-staffing affects not only your employees, but also your customers. Too few associates to help the number of customers in your store leads to a completely avoidable, and high, number of dissatisfied customers who intent to spread negative reviews of your company. Also, consider increasing the size of back-stock for your stores. While having a lot of inventory can be expensive both financially and in terms of store size, the lack of available items also hurts customer satisfaction.

I worked at DICK'S Sporting Goods part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Flexible hours for young adults in college.
Young staff that is fun to work with.
Nice people to hang out with in and outside of work.

    Cons

Not much thought put into the yearly evaluation

    Advice to Management

Take advantage of having young ambitious employees. The opportunity is there. The management training program should be promoted to every young kid and should constantly be looked at as a staple of the companies benefit and opportunity.

I have been working at DICK'S Sporting Goods part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Doing something i love talking to customers about the products i live and use.

for the most part good co-works and managers depending on location.

    Cons

cutting of hours, no pay roll, Under paid for the amount of work/ coverage for the lodge department. basically you have to be the person to run roughly 25% of the store and typically you are the only one working the floor due to payroll. Lodge could be made up into 5 separate departments depending on season. and removing products for a PR stunt and making us have to deal with all the angry customers cause you promised something you could not deliver. lots of pushing of credit cards, also never have enough product to do things they ask.

    Advice to Management

ask for more pay roll, make sure we are getting in product when we need it. more hours. better pay.
