Advice to Management

Give your store managers more empowerment over their store. Each store is different.

I worked at DICK'S Sporting Goods part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

You get a good discount on most soft goods, and first dibs on sale items. You also get some great discount coupons from time to time. Good way to gain sales experience.

    Cons

Very low pay for the high expectations they put on you. I worked in footwear and it was overwhelming at times by myself. I worked hard though, and sold a whole lot of shoes and warranties. It didn't pan out in any kind of incentives from the company though.

    Advice to Management

Enjoying your job has everything to do with your team leader and the manager over your department. I had a wonderful manager and a lack luster team leader, which made for a day to day kind of job experience. Provide sales incentives for hard line and footwear employees!

I have been working at DICK'S Sporting Goods full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Because of turnover, hard work is recognized and promoted. Decent discount, not great. You're selling sporting goods, so if you're in a department you love, it's pretty fun. I started out in golf and it was awesome. I just talked about golf all day. Other departments, not so much.

    Cons

Too much top down thinking. But if you're going to go to a corporation, you need to expect it, so just roll with it, keep your head down, and work hard.

    Advice to Management

Nothing on a store level. They don't make decisions.
