I worked at DICK'S Sporting Goods part-time (Less than a year)

Pros

Fellow co-workers in the same corporate boat is the only thing that made this job bearable. They make it fun.

Cons

Racist supervisors, inappropriate leadership, terrible pay. Constant badgering of customers for rewards card and credit card sign ups encouraged.

I worked at DICK'S Sporting Goods full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Some of the directors and PMs are really pushing to do internal applications the right way, with a focus on developing internal solutions for the business, rather than just buying an off-the-shelf package that doesn't do half of what the business needs.

    Cons

The Applications and Infrastructure groups don't seem to get along very well. There is a pervasive belief that one developer is the same as any other. Additionally, there is the belief that software development is just like installing a server - a set of steps that lead to a working product, rather than a creative process.

    Advice to Management

If the business is starting "IT departments" of their own upstairs and hiring developers to build production reports and processes on "dev" servers, you've got a major problem with how IT is responding to projects - which may be a function of the fact that you seem totally willing to spend millions in capital, but will not bring on additional hires.
